That mouth shaped, grinning, blinking self had gone.
you leant forward with forearms resting on a stool
he’d covered with a rug, saying, Okay,
just half a smile, that’s it, that’s fine, now roll
your head a bit, chin down a little, yes…..
I know you don’t believe me when I say
how good you looked. I would say that. I would.
But not this time, not quite yet: how...
you did change into somebody else –
so beautiful my eyes began to hurt
